Welcome back for Part 2 of this series! Hopefully after reading Part 1 you've got an idea of what you're looking for because now comes the fun part - researching and shortlisting some bands! Here are next few steps we recommend undertaking:
Seek Recommendations
If you have hired a wedding planner or are working with a venue that frequently hosts weddings, they might have a list of recommended live music vendors. They can provide insights into who has worked well at their location, as well as which bands may suit your specific requirements.
Seeking recommendations from friends and family who have recently been married or attended weddings with live music is also a great idea. They may be able to suggest bands, solo musicians, or other live music options, plus, they will likely know you well enough to only suggest options you'll actually like!
Online Research
Most bands have a strong online presence so get Googling or searching social media. If you're feeling overwhelmed with options, try being more specific with your search or try looking at listing sites such as Hitched or the 5 Star Wedding Directory.
Another option is to attend wedding expos and shows. Attending events allows you to hear live music acts firsthand and interact with the performers - it’s always nice to talk face-to-face with the people who may be a part of your special day.
Listen to Their Music
Once you've found a band you like the look of, listen to their music on their website, social media, or platforms like YouTube or Spotify. Pay attention to their sound, style, and overall performance. Most bands will also have promotional videos, often filmed at a venue not dissimilar to many wedding venues - these videos will give you a better sense of what that band may be like in a setting similar to yours. Read Reviews and Request References
Look for reviews from previous clients and ask the bands for references from clients. Hearing about other couples' experiences can provide valuable insights, and more often than not become the deciding factor on whether you will go with a band or not.
Shortlist
Once you have done your research through recommendations and searches online, now is the time to shortlist your top 3-5 acts. Collate your research and compare the various options based on factors like musical preferences, the vibe of the band, and client feedback.
Once you have gone through this researching process, you are now ready to begin fine tuning your ideas, including chatting to your potential band! Read Part 3 in the series for the next steps in booking your wedding music.
